City of San Diego Prepares for El Niño and Upcoming Rainy Season
The Linda Vista Planning Group is sharing the following preparedness information from the Office of Mayor Todd Gloria and the City of San Diego.
The City is preparing for the potential impacts of El Niño and encouraging San Diegans to take steps now to protect their homes, families, and businesses during the upcoming rainy season.
As part of these preparations, the City’s Office of Emergency Services has been integrated into the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, bringing emergency preparedness and response efforts more closely together under new leadership.
What you can do now
Know your risk: Determine whether your home or business may be vulnerable to flooding and identify safe routes into and out of your neighborhood.
Prepare your property: Clear leaves and debris from areas where water needs to drain. Protect belongings that could be damaged by flooding.
Make a plan: Discuss what your household will do and where you will go if flooding affects your neighborhood. Include plans for children, older adults, people with disabilities, and pets.
Build or check your emergency kit: Make sure you have essential supplies, medications, important documents, and other necessities readily available.
Stay informed: Follow reliable weather and emergency information and pay attention to City alerts and instructions as storms approach.
Residents living in FEMA-designated flood-prone areas, including portions of Council District 7, may also receive a preparedness mailer directly from the City with additional information about potential flooding and rainy-season preparation.
